William Penn has had a chapter of the National Jr. Honor Society since 2002. At the end of the second marking period, 7th grade students who have earned a 3.7 grade point average  THIS GRADE POINT AVERAGE DOES NOT ROUND UP. or higher as their final grades in 6th grade and first two marking periods of 7th grade are invited to apply. In addition, 8th grade students, who qualify and have not already been inducted, may be identified by using final grades for 6th and 7th grades and the first two marking periods of 8th grade. Grade Point Averages (GPA) will be calculated by the IT department based on weighted grade system for academic and expressive arts classes. This calculation will be used to determine eligibility to apply for membership. The application requires that students list their participation in school as well as community organizations (ie. band, chorus, sports, scouts, youth groups, etc). As part of the application process, students must also remain after school one day to write an essay. After the applications are reviewed by the Faculty Council, membership is extended only to the students who qualify.
