x Head Lice Yearly Parent Reminder
Head lice are a common problem that affects virtually every school in the country. It is important that you periodically check your child’s head for lice.  It can occur throughout the school year and are found in children of all socioeconomic classes.

Head lice are spread by direct contact or through sharing personal items (hats, combs, scarves).  Many families take part in activities such as movies, plane and train rides, amusement parks, ball pits, staying at hotels, direct sport activities, sleepovers, and camps. These are places that lice are usually spread because a large number of people are involved. This increases the possibility to exposure.

The nits are very small white particles similar to dandruff that are firmly attached to the hair shaft.  Head lice are tan to grayish white, they do not fly or hop, but they crawl quickly through the air.  Your need to go through your child’s hair very slowly, a small area at a time.  If your child has nits/head lice, please notify the school and consult your doctor for recommended treatment.
