Alumni meet with PHS seniors
PHS West Assistant Principal Cherrissa Gibson shares that Pennsbury alumni visited with seniors at PHS East and West on the day prior to the holiday break. “The idea for the alumni panel assembly came from student Anna Wachspress,” said Ms. Gibson. “She is a member of Student Forum. After the November Forum meeting, Anna brought the idea to me and we quickly began organizing this event.” The PHS School Counselors were asked to contact recent PHS graduates currently in college (community college, four-year, or trade schools). “Anna also reached out to some former PHS students,” said Ms. Gibson. A total of 27 PHS alumni responded that they would like to participate! Students attending the panel discussions asked questions of the alumni, who then responded. “The alumni gave excellent answers,” said Ms. Gibson. “Afterwards, the students in the audience remarked to me that the responses were authentic and relevant. Students commented that while they had heard some of what the alumni said previously from faculty or parents, it was more meaningful coming from the recent graduates.” The assembly lasted just over a half hour. Faculty, students and alumni agreed afterwards that this event should allow for a longer discussion next time. “The PHS alumni with whom I spoke afterwards asked me how they may participate again next year. They also commented that they wished they had had something like this when they were seniors,” said Ms. Gibson.
