Pennsbury STEM Teams Shine at County Competition
Hats off to Pennsbury's STEM teams!
The elementary STEM competitors took first and third places and received several nominations at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 K'nex STEM competition on March 22nd. Students competed in teams of four 4th and 5th graders from Eleanor Roosevelt, Makefield, Edgewood, Quarry Hill, Afton, and Walt Disney elementary schools. The team from Walt Disney won third place under the guidance of teacher, Katie Duncan, while Quarry Hill teacher, Robyn Rowlands, coached a team of students from her school who won the award for "Best Teamwork." A fifth grade team from Makefield, under the guidance of teacher, Alison Majikas, placed first overall. The Makefield team will continue on to the state level of competition in Harrisburg in May!
On March 23rd, teams from Pennsbury's three middle schools -- Charles Boehm, Pennwood, and William Penn -- were challenged to build a K'nex amusement park, making "green" a priority. A William Penn team, mentored by teachers Kelly Giacomelli, Kristin Slota, and Bridget Blackshire, was awarded "Most Environmentally Friendly." The Pennwood team, mentored by teachers Jessica Berkey and Beth Price, won best overall, and they will also be attending the state competition!
Congratulations and best of luck at the state level!
