8 Pennsbury High School students were among the top 16,000 scorers across the country in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test taken by juniors last year. They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million to be awarded in the spring.
The 8 students are: Miles Borowsky, Andrew Delworth, Vincent Mariani, Christian McKernan, Elise Palatine, Brendan Polo, Matthew Steele, Madeleine Umstead
To become finalists and be considered for the scholarships, semifinalists must submit a detailed scholarship application including information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. Finalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm their earlier performance on the qualifying test.
