A National School District of Character
A public presentation on emergency response protocols was well attended as community stakeholders learned about the new ALICE program in Pennsbury. ALICE = Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. Fourth grade students at Quarry Hill Elementary researched and designed circuit boards, then presented their work to second graders. Oxford Valley Elementary students and staff honored their family members and friends who served in the armed forces or are currently active in the military in recognition of Veterans Day 2019. Pennwood Middle School students and staff held their Unity Walk in October to emphasize the importance of good character and working together as a community toward a common cause. Third graders at Penn Valley Elementary are using the Google Expedition Virtual Reality goggles to explore different versions of bridges as they read "Pop's Bridge" during RELA. They explored truss, arch, cable, and suspension bridges and have a better understanding of these concepts through the use of this technology. Pennsbury High School students listened intently as Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub responded to their thought-provoking questions on school safety and security. CONGRATULATIONS to Afton Elementary for being named a National Blue Ribbon School 2019-2020 by the U.S. Dept of Education! Fallsington Elementary faculty and students marked the last day for outgoing interim Principal, Fay Manicke (center, with red bow), and welcomed incoming Principal, Vinny DePaola (second from right) with a Disney and Super Hero character day. A total of 500 students performed the Star Spangled Banner at Falcon Field when the Pennsbury Marching Band invited instrumental students from all three Pennsbury middle schools to join them for the annual "Be Our Guest" event. (L-R) Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula, Afton Principal Dr. Joseph Masgai, Edgewood Principal Stephanie Hultquist, Makefield Principal Donna McCormick-Miller, and Charles Boehm MS Principal Travis Bloom volunteered to take part in ShopRite of Yardley's Bag for Hunger Day to help raise funds for local food pantries. Pennsbury's Bus Driver of the Year is Thomas McGoldrick! Student leaders hosted activity fair booths to acquaint incoming 9th grade students with club options.
