MAP is an acronym for Measures of Academic Progress. Students are assessed in mathematics and reading using a computer. When taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. Usually, a student answers half the items correctly and half incorrectly as the system works to find the student’s instructional level.
MAP results are reported as a RIT score. A RIT score is an estimation of a student’s instructional level and allows teachers to measure student progress and growth.
