Pennsbury School District Receives National Recognition for Music Education Support

The Pennsbury School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for their outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 27th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students. This is Pennsbury’s 21st time being recognized as a Best Community!
Two awards are given each year: Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) for school districts and the Support Music Merit Award (SMMA) for individual school sites. Both reach K-12 schools and districts throughout the U.S. and offer opportunities to increase awareness and support for music programs. Over 1,000 districts and individual school sites (public, private, charter, parochial) were recognized for having the highest commitment to producing exceptional music programs.
“Music education allows every student to be creative and supports their social-emotional growth as individuals. It builds their confidence, fosters collaboration, and nurtures a lifelong appreciation for the arts while helping them develop critical thinking and communication skills ,” said Matt South, Curriculum Coordinator of K-12 Vocal Music.
Felicia Hebenstreit, Curriculum Coordinator of Instrumental Music, commented "This designation affirms our proud tradition of musical excellence and reinforces our commitment to high standards. It also ensures that we can continue providing our students with outstanding opportunities and meaningful experiences."
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Pennsbury answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the leading arts educational research firm, WolfBrown.
The Pennsbury School District, located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, serves a diverse community with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning. The district offers robust instructional programs across its elementary, middle, and high schools, with a particular strength in its comprehensive and inclusive music education program.
