Makefield’s Health & Safety Opening of School Plan for 2021-22

Superintendent’s Full Health & Safety Presentation

*As of 8/23/2021 (updating if any changes in recommendation are made by district office)

Current Plan for a 5-Day Week

Daily RUVNA health screenings for all students and staff.

Use of ventilation and air purification systems in all classrooms.

Use of controlled movement through hallways and stairwells.

Continued emphasis on handwashing and respiratory etiquette.

Seating Charts

Seating charts for all classrooms for contact tracing.

Contact Tracing

Contact tracing protocols with isolation and quarantine.  Specifics are being determined.

Continued use of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting protocols.

Reporting positive cases and close contacts to our school nurse.

Masking - Inside

Masks are required for all students, staff and visitors inside the school building.  If students do not come to school with a mask, one will be provided for them by the school. Medical and/or disability exemptions will be reviewed for compliance with IDEA.  Decision-Making Matrix will be utilized to guide masking recommendation (slide 6 of Superintendent’s H&S presentation above).

Masking - Outdoors

Masks are optional for all students, staff and visitors when outside (includes recess).

Masking - Transportation

Masks are required for students and staff on all school-designated transportation vehicles.

School Volunteers

Must have current and approved clearances.  Masking is required in the school building.

Goal of 3-feet spacing when possible.  This will not be possible in all classroom spaces.

Homerooms - Floor Plans

Classroom set up will allow for the use of desk groups and table groups.

Homerooms - SG Instruction

Classrooms will make use of small group instruction table spaces within the homerooms.

Large classroom area rugs have been removed from all classrooms.

Birthday Treats

Due to allergy and other concerns, students and staff are not permitted to bring in or distribute birthday treats.

During the first week of school I will determine the best seating arrangement for lunch for each grade level and will consider both classroom and cafetorium spacing.  Students will re-mask once they have finished eating. We will continue with our outdoor lunches in the Learning Garden weather permitting. Hoping to secure additional tents to create more eating areas outside. Grade level specific lunch information will be communicated to families by mid week.

Recess will take place with all homerooms playing together within the designated playground areas.

Doors will open at 8:40 AM.  Student drop off is in the back of the building until 9:00. After 9:00 the back door will be locked and students need to be signed in in the main office.

Dismissal will follow a more traditional plan with the exception that students taking school transportation must wear masks.  This plan will include walkers/car riders being dismissed as a single group to the fire drill line area with waiting staff.   Bus riders will be dismissed as the buses arrive and will be dismissed one grade level at a time.
