A State Senator Visits Fallsington Elementary’s 4th Graders

On Friday, October 28, 2016 Ms. Sherman’s and Ms. Mitchell’s 4th graders were visited by the State Senator of the 10th District, Mr. Charles T. McIlhinney, Jr. The senator held a discussion with the students about the legislative process, our state government, and community service. He informed the students on how laws are made, and encouraged them to express which laws they would like to see changed or created. Fallsington’s 4th graders enjoyed their lively discussion with Senator McIlinney and look forward to learning more about the law and how our government works.

The senator’s visit was a great connection to the 4th grade mock election that our students are holding this school year. Each 4th grade class conducted their own primary election for president and vice presidential candidates. The presidential candidates from both classes are Rachael Constantino and Joe Beitler. The vice presidential candidates from both classes are Eddie Marion and Makena Doan. Along with giving speeches as to why the students should vote for them, each candidate will participate in a spirited debate against his/her opponent. The mock election will end with all 4th grade students casting their votes for the candidates of their choice. It’s been a wonderful experience so far, and we are all eager to see who will become 4th grade’s president and vice president for the school year of 2016-17.
